Crafting Resilience: From Surviving to Thriving

Resilience, the capacity to adapt successfully in the face of stress, is a capacity that involves thoughts, behaviours & actions – and can be learned by ANYONE! This workshop uses basic neuroscience to explain our evolved negativity bias, and the multiple pathways towards positive change. Participants will experiment with new mindsets and tools for boosting positivity, and will learn how to make choices and develop personal practices to dramatically increase their resilience.

Beginning with an outline of our 3 brain systems, this workshop investigates the physiology of both the Stress Response and the Relaxation Response. In addition to offering hands-on tools to elicit the healthful Relaxation Response, recent research about post-traumatic growth is shared. Beginning with a focus on what is already working, Positive Psychology shifts our mindset; and as we ask different questions, the outcomes shift accordingly. Paying attention, in the present moment, and non-judgementally … mindfulness brings an entirely new dimension to eating. The practice of mindful eating helps us to distinguish between physical and emotional hunger, and unlike dieting, it’s more about HOW we eat than WHAT we eat. Learn to recognize the signals of hunger, savour like a gourmet and truly appreciate each bite – with mindfulness!
